M&M Cookie Dough Dip

Between getting ready for our trip, celebrating the holidays in the short time we had before leaving, and baking up as much of a Christmas storm as I could, I kinda sorta forgot about New Year’s treats. Usually I would have something really special for you like Champagne Jello Shots or Chocolate Covered Strawberry Shot Glasses (basically anything with alcohol…) but this year we’re ushering in 2015 here at Sweet Tooth booze-less. But if I told you I have a giant ball of cookie dough for you instead would you please forgive me?? My cop-out New Year’s treat today is actually somewhat appropriate for the holiday since it makes the best snack to bring to parties. And a girl can’t live off champagne alone – you need a good dose of cookie dough and chocolate to round things out!

I actually made this back in November for my dear friend Amanda who is a total M&M-addict and also happens to have an egg-allergy. Since any cookie dough recipe that’s meant to be eaten raw can’t have any eggs in it, I thought it would make the perfect dessert for her birthday brunch. When people realize you’re serving them a ball of cookie dough that’s totally safe to eat in excess, you tend to see a lot of expressions of extreme happiness. Cookie dough is quite an obsession among people, so you really can’t go wrong with bringing this to your New Year’s party. Just like my Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Football Dip was a total hit last year, this new incarnation of cookie dough dip went over just as well. It’s also extremely easy to make – you get to skip the process of actually making cookies, yet it’s just as impressive, if not more!

I went with a simple rainbow design, but you could be really fancy and spell out “2015” with M&M’s or use whatever what colors you want. I know I posted an M&M recipe just two weeks ago, but they’re just such a fun and classic candy sometimes I just can’t help but grabbing them at the store. Every party or holiday event my parents hosted growing up always featured a bowl of plain M&M’s so I will forever associate M&M’s with party time. So bust out the M&M’s, throw together a ball of cookie dough, and ring in the new year with this totally over-indulgent yet totally worth it treat! Resolutions start next week, guys…

M&M Cookie Dough Dip

Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
1 cup M&M's, chopped + more for decorating
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate, chopped
Pretzels, apples, graham crackers, or other desired sides

Directions:

In a small bowl whisk together the flour and salt. In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat together the melted butter, sugars, and vanilla until smooth. With the mixer on low, add the flour until just incorporated.

Add half of the whipped cream and beat until smooth. With a rubber spatula, fold in the rest of the whipped cream. Add the cup of M&M's and chopped chocolate and keep mixing until well distributed.

Form the cookie dough into a ball, place onto desired serving dish, and decorate with more M&M's. Arrange sides around the cookie dough ball and enjoy!
